Renting safely
What can go wrong between two strangers is foreseeable — so it is built in rather than left to good intentions. Here is what the system does, and equally what it does not.
The condition is recorded, by both sides
At handover and at return, a protocol with photos is created each time. Both sides countersign — comparing the two is the evidence, not one side's recollection.
- A protocol is added to, never edited. Evidence that can be rewritten afterwards is not evidence.
- The photos are not public. Other users cannot retrieve them.
- If the other side does not countersign, the deadline expires and is recorded as such — it does not count as agreement. The provider can settle the deposit after that, however: objecting gets you further than staying silent.
Two ways to handle the deposit — and you see which applies
Which way is possible is the provider's decision for their item. Where you have the choice, you make it when booking — and either way the amount is fixed beforehand.
- A hold on your card: the amount is reserved, not charged. On an undamaged return the hold is released.
- Cash between the two of you: the money does not pass through us but goes directly from hand to hand. We record that you chose this route — nothing more, and the booking says so.
The money stays put until the item is back
You pay when booking, but the provider does not receive the money right away. The payout is only initiated once the return is confirmed — not at handover, and certainly not on acceptance.
That is why a return has to be confirmed rather than simply lapsing: it is the point at which the money takes its direction.
Ratings come from what actually happened
- Only someone who had a booking with you can rate you. There is no rating without a transaction behind it.
- You can add a right of reply to a rating about you. It stands alongside rather than replacing the rating.
- You can see at any time what has been collected about you.
Reporting and blocking
- A listing, a profile or a message can be reported.
- Anyone you block can no longer send you a request. That needs no reason and no review. An ongoing booking and its messages remain — money and deadlines do not hinge on a block.
What we do not do
We insure nothing, we inspect no items and we give no guarantee as to their condition. What you rent is in front of you at handover — which is why the protocol at that moment matters.
And we are not a party to the contract: the rental agreement is between you and the provider. We supply the process, the records and the payment route — not the item itself.
